PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
